`In April, the International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific met in Bali
about the desperate need to reduce the rate of AIDS infections in Southeast Asia
which is continuously rising at a frightening rate, and announced that 1.5 million
women were affected and 50 million wereat risk. The risk is for women who work
in the sex industry and more shockingly, the women who are put at risk by their
husbands and boyfriends who sleep around or are clients of sex workers. 90 per
cent of women who suffer from HIV or AIDS in Southeast Asia are infected by
their husbands and boyfriends. Definitely food for thought.
